                                                      “ACCEPTING THE TIDE”
                                                       FEATURING WORKS BY ANNA HAMER

Exhibition Dates: October 20th 2007 – November 14th 2007
Location: 139 Broadway St., New Orleans LA, 70118
Opening Reception: Saturday, October 20th, 6 to 9pm

New Orleans, LA- Uptown Gallery is proud to present “Accepting the Tide” featuring new works by Anna
Hamer. The exhibit will open on Saturday, October 20th, with the opening reception taking place from six to
nine pm, and will remain up till November 14th, 2007. Anna Hamer’s “Accepting the Tide” is a body of work
that she says draws inspiration from a passage by Ralph Waldo Emerson, which discusses the way to
discover the answers to life’s questions and the secret of nature.

In her new body of work, Anna incorporates encaustic, pastels, watercolor inks, charcoal, oil and acrylics
into her mix media pieces. The colorful abstract images draw from many different aspects.  Anna says the
circles commonly present in her abstract images “allude to the adventure and patterns of our lives”. Her
works also draws from the flow of rivers to the sea as a continuous metaphor for “the union of the individual
with the universal consciousness”. Anna often works with triptychs, which allow her to convey this flow of
movement throughout one another, while still representing its self a whole. While “Accepting the Tide” is
Anna’s most recent works, her decorated history in painting goes back for years.

Anna received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Ringling School if Art in Sarasota, Florida. She also spent
part of her undergraduate time at the College of Charleston. Anna has spent the last twenty seven years
residing and producing her work in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1996 and 1999 Anna was the recipient of the
Hambidge Center Fellowships. In 2003, Anna received the Fulton County Arts Council Residency at the
Caversham Centre in Balgowan, South Africa.  Anna’s works reside in several private stretching from
California to Maryland to Florida. While Anna has previously shown in New Orleans, her upcoming showing
at Uptown Gallery will be her first local show in over ten years.

Uptown Gallery is located at the corner of Broadway and Camp, where Broadway meets River Road. The

A BENEFIT FOR THE RENEW OUR MUSIC FUND
FEATURING "NEW ORLEANS JAZZ, THEN AND NOW"
                                                   BY PETER YOKUM

Exhibition Dates:
September 22nd – October 17th 2007
Location: 139 Broadway St., New Orleans LA, 70118
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 22nd, 6 to 9pm

New Orleans, LA- Uptown Gallery is proud to present an opening night party and benefit for the Renew Our
Music Fund featuring oil paintings by Peter Yokum.  The Renew Our Music Fund is a local not-for-profit
organization focusing on the needs of New Orleans musicians in post Katrina times.  Ben Jaffe, owner of the
famous Preservation Hall, started the Renew Our Music Fund just days after hurricane Katrina hit New
Orleans. The Renew Our Music Fund's main focus is to preserve cultural and musical traditions by
providing individuals and institutions with the means to carry them forward.  Since it’s founding the Renew
Our Music Fund has provided the music community with various grants and housing assistance.  It has
also linked musicians with gigs, provided instruments and hosted several fundraisers in order to raise
money for local musicians trying to return to New Orleans.  Uptown Gallery, Peter Yokum and the Renew
Our Music Fund are teaming up in an effort to raise money and awareness for the needs of our local
musicians.  The opening reception will be held on Saturday September 22 nd from 6-9 p.m. with a portion of
all proceeds being donated to the Renew Our Music Fund.

Peterson Moon Yokum is a local artist who grew up in the heart of the French Quarter only a few blocks
away from Preservation Hall.  Peter studied for seven years at the famed Art Students League of New York.
While there Peter spent much of his time concentrating on mastering the classical approach to the human
form.  Upon his return Peter began to combine his training with his true passion for jazz.  With this came
Peter's greatest work to date.

"New Orleans Jazz, Then and Now" is composed of several oil paintings pertaining to jazz legends of the past
and the present.  Peter began his artistic process by intensely researching images, music and text of the
original New Orleans jazz musicians.  It was here that Peter drew the inspiration for his work.  Many of
Peter's paintings are set in Preservation Hall, thereby forming a natural fit with the Renew Our Music Fund.
Along with his famous jazz portraits comes a series of still life oil paintings about New Orleans culture.  With
the combination of Peter's love for jazz and painting, Uptown Gallery's passion for giving back to the
community and the Renew Our Music Fund, the trio hopes to raise money and awareness for this great
cause.

                                                             "SECRET WORKS"
                                                                       By:
                                                                Tim Trapolin

Exhibition Dates:  November 17th 2007 - December 12th 2007
Location: 139 Broadway St., New Orleans LA, 70118
Opening Reception: Saturday, November 17th 2007

New Orleans, LA - Uptown Gallery is proud to present "Secret Works" by Tim Trapolin. The exhibit will open
on Saturday, November 17th, 2007 with an opening reception from noon until seven. The show will remain
up until December 12th, 2007. Tim will be showcasing over fifty pieces of original work. The inspiration for
this show comes mainly from his travels from Maine to Italy and of course, from New Orleans. This large
body of work includes watercolors, oils, and pen and ink drawings. Along with works done during his
travels, he will also be showing a series of nudes.

Tim is a native of New Orleans and currently lives uptown. He was the head of the art department at the
prestigious McGehee School for fifteen years after which he began to focus all of his time working out of his
studio. He now spends half of his time working on commissioned portraits, and the other half traveling the
world. Most recently Tim completed the illustrations for the Commander's Palace inspired "In the Land of
Cocktails" for his close friends Ti Adelaide Martin and Lally Brennan.

While Tim is best known for his portrait work, this show will reveal an entirely new side of  Tim's talents.
Because his schedule keeps him so busy, it has been almost five years since he has had time for a solo show
in New Orleans. Tim says, " This show is a celebration of New Orleans and my love affair with the city."
Uptown Gallery is pleased and honored to be able to share this special occasion with him.

Uptown Gallery is located at the corner of Broadway and Camp, where Broadway meets the river. The gallery
is open Tuesday - Saturday from noon until six, and by appointment. For more information on the gallery
