New Orleans artist Carol Leake is known for her series of landscapes, her figurative work
in watercolor and her depictions of the festival, Mardi Gras, which so particularly defines
New Orleans.  The Carnival images are the subject of a PBS documentary short,
Parade
Pictures,
featuring the Mardi Gras related work of Leake and of noted artist, George
Dureau.  She is a member of the visual arts faculty of Loyola University, where she
teaches painting and watercolor.

Carol Leake's work has been shown extensively, both regionally and nationally.  She is
represented in numerous private and corporate collections, including that of Bell South at
the corporate headquarters in Atlanta and the collections of Freeport MacMoran, Texaco,
and the Louisiana Land & Exploration Company.  Among the private collections that
include her work are the estate of the late Jim Morrison, and the collections of artist,
Peter Halley; writer, Valerie Martin; writer, Julie Smith; musician, Alex Chilton; musician,
Patti Smith; and musician, Chris Smither.

The work presented in this exhibition is a selection from the series,
New Orleans Jazz,
Rhythm & Blues,
which has been in progress since 1992 and is comprised of pen and ink
drawings done on location at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and in various
nightclubs around town.
